Links to Third-Party Applications Useful in FileStar/2

In FileStar/2, any file with a unique extension can be set up to start a related program if that program will accept files passed as parameters. This is generally the case. When a file is double-clicked (3-button single-click) in a file window, the associations are scanned and the appropriate program started with the file passed as a parameter. If no association has been set up for the extension, the program set up as the viewer is started. FileStar can use external third-party programs for such tasks as viewing, editing, printing and comparing files. The default viewer is the internal program FlexEdit

If the ALT key is pressed when the double-click occurs (or Keyboard Enter), the associated WPS action is started.

There are certain file extensions that are hard-coded to standard OS/2 programs. These are INF (VIEW.EXE), HLP (internally converted and viewed with VIEW.EXE) and MET (PICVIEW.EXE).

While the E.EXE, EPM.EXE, PRINT.COM and COMP.EXE utilities distributed with the OS/2 operating system may be used for the viewing, editing, and comparing files tasks, there are other more capable programs available.  The following programs work well for the stated tasks when started from within FileStar/2:

Kon Text file viewer/editor, general purpose and programming
PMDiff Visual text file comparison
Info-ZIP Archiving Utilities

The Info-ZIP archiving and archive extraction programs are used by both FileStar/2 and UniMaint. The latest versions are generally available by clicking the Info-ZIP logo.  The programs are free to all users and there is no extra cost associated with their use in FileStar/2 and UniMaint.
