Change Directory

The active drive and/or directory may be changed by invoking and using the Change Directory dialog. Activate the dialog by pressing the backslash (\) key or use the Change Directory option from the Directories menu.

Note:There is no 'Close' button on the dialog. Hitting the Enter or Ecs keys or mouse clicking anywhere in the Directories window will close the dialog.

Change Drive

To change the active drive, type X: (where 'X' is the desired drive) and hit the Enter key.

Change directory

To change the active directory, there are three different entry possibilities.

• String Search - User starts typing an embedded string of characters from the desired directory name into the Change To field. The String Search radio button must be selected. The first match found is shown in the Match field and the tree scrolls to that directory. Other matches may be seen by hitting the Next button.

• Name Search - User starts typing the full directory name in the Change To field. The Name Search radio button must be selected. The first match found is shown in the Match field and the tree scrolls to that directory. Other matches may be seen by hitting the Next button. There will be fewer matches using this mode than when using a string search.

• Path Search - User starts typing with the backslash character (\), then continues typing in the path to the desired drive into the Change To field. The Match field shows the first directory that matches the partial entered path. Hit the Enter key to change to the directory shown in the Match field.

Controls

• Next - If there is more than one directory with the same name (in different directories), subsequent directories may be found by pressing the Next pushbutton.

• Enter - When the desired directory is displayed in the Match field, press the Enter pushbutton, or keyboard Enter, to change to that directory.

Partial Scan Effects

The directory search is conducted on the drive tree(s) content, not the directories on the drive. Therefore, it is possible that the directory being searched for has not been read into a displayed directories tree due to a partial scan. In that case, no match will be found although the directory may very well be on the drive displayed in the Directories window. If no matching directory is found after entering the second character, a background thread is started that reads all directories on the drive. Of course, it is possible to select the Read All Dirs option from the Directories menu to read all directories into the tree but this approach is not recommended for normal use.
