Note: Before using this dialog, a user should read the Extended Attributes section.

The Add EA dialog is used to add an EA to a file or directory. It is opened only from the EAView dialog. The EAs that an end user might typically add to a file or directory are the .COMMENTS. .KEYPHRASES and/or .SUBJECT EAs. Other types of EAs may best be used by a developer or one that understands their use. Add EA Dialog Window

Adding an EA

Adding a simple ASCII EA is rather straightforward. To add a .COMMENT EA, select it from the EA list. Then select 'Single' or 'MVMT' value type and 'Ascii' data type from the options. Press Ok. The dialog will close and the EA View dialog will re-appear with the text cursor in the enabled Extended Attribute Data field. Enter up to 64K of text. Text may be pasted into the field. When finished, press the Update button on the EA View dialog. The EA is then created. Then press Save to save the EA.

Only .COMMENTS, .SUBJECT and .KEYPHRASES EAs are shown in the Properties dialog of a file.

An EA may be named anything desired. To add an EA named MY_COMMENTS, enter the name in the list entry field. Then go though the same steps to add the EA.

If desired, several comments may be entered in separate discrete steps in a Ascii MVMT EA. Update the EA after each entry. Now when viewed, separate 'Ascii' entries will be found in the Data Type field. Select from this field to see the separate entries.
