Directory Filter

The Directory Filter dialog window is accessed by selecting the Filter option from the Directories Window Options menu. The Window Options menu is a context menu accessed by RMB click on the Last Directory pushbutton. It may also be accessed by Setup->Window Options but note that the Directories window must be the active internal window. If a Files window is active and Window options is selected from the Setup menu, the File Filter dialog window will be activated instead of the Directory Filter dialog.

Directory filters settings are for individual drives and the desired drive must be selected before activating the filter dialog. The filters settings are applied only to the drive that was highlighted when the menu option was selected. In other words, each drive has its own set filter options. The drive selected is shown in the dialog title bar.

Directory Filter Dialog

There are options to set four search parameters, the attributes filter to be used in a directory search and how the tree is to be sorted.

Exclude Files Check Box - When checked, files are excluded in a directory search, resulting in faster operation. However, on some network systems, a search without files is not supported.

Find Buffer Size Controls - These controls are used to set the 'find' buffer size for both directories and files. The directories are searched until finding a prefixed number before updating the tree, resulting in a faster tree build. Decrease the size of the find buffer if the program fails to find all directories on a drive or all files in a directory. This should only rarely occur on some remote drive installations. The default setting (also the maximum setting) is 128 for directories and 200 for files. It is not expected that any other setting would be required for a local drive and these settings should be left at maximum values for best performance.

Include Radio Buttons - Directories with the checked attributes will be found in a drive scan. The default has been set to include all which means the search will find all directories regardless of set directory attributes.

To hide a directory, both the directory hidden attribute must be set using the Directories->Attributes dialog window and the Hidden check box on this dialog must be unchecked. Doing the same with the System attribute and check box would hide all directory with that attribute.

Sort By Radio Buttons - Use these radio buttons to set the option to no sort or sort the tree alphabetically. This normally makes little or no difference on the HPFS file system but can make a huge difference on the FAT file system.
