The Subirectories->Zip menu item will activate a Zip Directory dialog with the current directory as the target directory. The dialog enables the user to click in the full target path and edit the target zip file name, or the user may manually enter the full target path and file name for the target zip file. Zip option switches may also be set from the dialog which allow for zipping only the selected directory or the selected directory branch.
This function will zip all selected directories, when viewing multiple directories in the Files window, to the same target file. This permits selective archiving of the content of the parent directory. A new process is started for each selected directory. This has the advantage that temporary space is needed only for the largest selected directory. However, if many subdirectories are selected, the time to zip each directory grows as each zip process is closed. This implemenation is undesirable for zipping entire drives.
