Directory
Navigation
Easy directory navigation, the act of changing the displayed
directory,
is essential in file management. FS/2 accomplishes directory navigation
through use of:
- Directory tree views
- Internal windows containing the current drive list
and directory tree, with optional single click selection of either the
desired
drive or directory.
- Individual tree windows for each Files window
(the inactive one is always hidden).
- Directory tree flexibility to display:
- One button toggle to the parent
directory.
- Backward/forward menu buttons to toggle though
the last 20 used directories.
- A application created menu of the last
20 used directories.
- A user created menu of up to 20 frequently
used directories.
- A user created DirMarks directory
tree of frequently used directories.
- User created toolbar buttons to select favorite
directories.
- A Change
Directory function that seeks a directory as the user enters a
directory
name or string of characters contained in a name.
Any of the above features may be also be used to set the target
directory
for functions (Copy, Move, Zip, etc.) that require it.
Using The
Mouse
The simplest and easiest directory change is accomplished by a simple
click
(or double click if the single click option is not enabled) on the
directory
name in the directory tree. When the desired directory is not in the
displayed
directory tree(s), i.e. it's on a different drive, and it has been
accessed
recently (in Last Used
Directories)
or has been previously added to the Dirmarks
tree or the Frequently
Used
Directories list, then other methods listed above may be used to
change
directories. Otherwise, change to the desired drive by clicking the
drive
letter in the Drives list and proceed
to
select the directory in the Directories tree.
If interested in alternately viewing two directories, use the Last
Directory button at the bottom of the Directories window. Pushing
it
repeatably flip-flops between the current and previous directories.
A mouse chord is recognized
when both the LMB and RMB are simultaneously
pressed. A mouse chord in the:
- Drives window - Opens the WPS Drives window. Free
space in the window should be used for the chord if possible.
- Directories
window - Opens the DirMarks window. A chord in the DirMarks window will
close that window.
- Either Files window - Activates the Last Used
Directories popup menu.
- Drives Titlebar - Runs the Refresh command
for refreshing removable devices and updates the drives list if
necessary.
- Directories Titlebar - Refreshes the Directories
tree for the current drive. Includes refreshing the cached NetDrive
directory
tree.
- Files Titlebar - Refreshes the file list in
the Files window. Includes refreshing cached NetDrive directories.
A mouse chord on a directory in the directory tree will change the tree
moding on-the-fly to the Current
Dir
View - which displays only that directory.
Using The Keyboard
In general, using the mouse for directory navigation is easier than
using
the keyboard. The choice of the method or device used depends on user
preference.
Keyboard users should use F5 to activate the Drives window and press
the
desired drive letter to change drives. The Change
Directory dialog (hit the backslash key to activate) may be the
easiest
to change directories. Otherwise use F6 to activate the Directories
window,
then repeatedly press the first character of the directory name to seek
the desired directory. Some up-down cursor scrolling in the directory
tree
may still be necessary. See Keys
Help for all keyboard accelerators.

Last Used Directory List
A list of last 20 used directories is maintained as a context
menu. The list is purged of invalid or duplicate
entries as it is activated.
To pop up this list, use a mouse chord (simultaneously press both the
LMB
and RMB) in the active Files window or Ctrl+Shift+L from the keyboard.
Keyboard
accelerators 0 to 9 are provided for random selection from the first 10
entries.
- Backward/Forward Menu Buttons - Use the Back/Forward buttons
in the Action Bar menu to select directories from the
list in
an ordered manner without displaying the list.
- Keyboard

Frequently
Used Directories
A Frequently Used Directories
List of
up to 20 entries may be created and used to switch directories to any
directory
in the system. Although DirMarks provides a similar capability, this
FS/2
v2 context menu remains as an option. Use the 'Set Freq Dirs' menu item
to create the list.
- Activate - Select from the toolbar. It is also available
as a context menu with a RMB click on any Parent
Directory button.
Directory Marks
A Directory Marks (DirMarks)
tree of
frequently used directories may be created and used to change to any
directory
in the system with a single LMB click. To add an entry in the tree, RMB
select the directory in the tree which will be before the new entry and
double click the directory to enter.
The DirMarks window is closed upon
any directory selection that does not
modify the tree.
- Activate - To activate the Directory Marks window,
chord the mouse (simultaneously press both the LMB and RMB) anywhere in
the Directory tree window.
Change Directory Dialog
A Change Directory
dialog window
may be used to seek a directory in the current tree(s), change drives
or
change to a fully specified directory path. In the seek mode, the
directory
that matches the entered characters (or string) is selected in the
applicable
directory tree. Use the Next
button to seek duplicate directory manes
that
match. A mouse click anywhere in the Directories window or hitting the
Esc or Enter
keys will close the dialog.
