FlexEdit

FlexEdit is a feature-rich text/hex editor or viewer that is an integral component of FS/2. It is automatically invoked during use of some functions such as saving a file list. It is an application that runs from a single DLL (flexedit.dll). An executable program is also provided.

Editor Considerations

Most users will prefer the editor that they are familiar with. FS/2 can accommodate the use of most editors of choice, including text mode applications, when properly defined and set up as the default editor. Those that choose to do this should at least run FS/2 with FlexEdit as the default viewer since opening a binary file with some viewer applications may fail. The FlexEdit viewer may be configured to always open in edit mode even when used as the viewer application by setting the open mode in FlexEdit.

Viewer Considerations

LMB double-clicking a file opens the viewer application only on non-executable files and those files that have no defined FS/2 or WPS (if enabled) association with another program. Double-clicking an executable file should result in execution of the file provided the executable application can find all required DLLs. Double-clicking a non-executable file with a FS/2 or WPS (if enabled) association should result in opening the associated executable with the file passed as a parameter. FS/2 may be set up to search for associations with either FS/2 or WPS associations in priority over the other or to exclude either.

There are setup options to enable use of FlexEdit in lieu of the WPS Text Editor (<WP_SYSED>), typically the application E.EXE, and/or the Enhanced Program Editor (<WP_EPM>) when WPS associations are enabled for use.
