If this option is enabled, a files search includes a search for each file's longname EA which may be displayed in a 'Titles' column. This option may also be toggled on or off from the Directories menu as a cascaded option of Refresh. When this option is toggled on, a refresh of the Files window occurs and the Show Titles option in the Window Options menu is enabled. The Show Titles option may then be set on or off without affecting the Load Titles option setting.
The effect of searching for the longname EA is an increase in scan search time. The measurable effect will vary with hardware performance and may or may not be noticeable. It has therefore been made an option.
There is generally no need to view file 'Titles' unless extensively working with FAT drives. If a function needs the longname EA, such as during a FAT-HPFS directory comparison, a longname search is performed regardless of the state of this option.
