Locked Windows
There are two meanings to locked windows in FS/2:
- Position lock - The size and position of
the
internal windows can be locked to prevent accidental adjustments by
dragging
a window border with the mouse. Use Setup->Lock Windows
to toggle the state of this option.
- Operation lock - Certain operations
require
setting a lock on the operation to prevent starting another operation
prior
to completion of the ongoing operation. These functions require the
selection
of files and/or directories to not be altered while the operation is
performed,
therefore a locked is placed on the active Files window. The lock
occurs
on opening of the function dialog, or in the case of a drag operation
when
the dragged item(s) is/are dropped. Functions that lock the active
Files
window are:
--
Copy files or directories
--
Move files or directories
--
Delete files or directories
--
--
Unzip files or directories
--
--
--
-
If
a function dialog is open but the function has not been started, the
user
must use the Ctrl key down to modify the selection of files with the
mouse.
Do not modify the selected files once the operation is started. Before
starting
the operation, the user can change the current drive or directory in
the
Drives or Directories window to set the target directory of the
operation.
Use of the other directory change functions, such as the Last
Used Directories popup menu, is also permitted.

-
-
A visual lock
symbol if shown at the bottom right of the Files window, in place of
the
parent directory button, when the window is locked. It will normally be
disabled with the exception of when the operation has only one selected
file.
-
The lock is automatically
removed when the function completes. If it remains locked upon
completion,
use the Esc key to remove the lock.
-
In
the locked state, the menu functions that could affect the operation
are
disabled. Pushing toolbar buttons or accelerator keys that also could
affect
the operation will result in no action.
-
If
starting another operation that locks the active Files window is
desired
(such as a second copy operation), switch to the other Files window and
use it for the operation. If additional windows are desired, start an
additional
instance of FS/2. A toolbar button can be added to start additional
instances
in the same directory or a different FS/2 directory. The advantage of
the
latter is customization of the program to a different look or options.
