FilesStar/2 is distributed as an evaluation program that converts to unrestrained operation upon registration. In the evaluation state, the program is initially fully functional with no nags. After one month of normal operation, the program degrades by three levels over a period of three months as indicated below. On the first start of the last five days at each of the following levels, a prompt of the impending degradation will appear.
Each level is inclusive of prior levels. Three months after install, the evaluation program will still run but remains in crippled level 3 state. It will be useful as a display of drives, directories and files but little else will function. However, all setup and configuration options will still be enabled. At the end of six moths, the program will automatically terminate on startup. The program may still be registered to return it to the fully functional state at any time.
Once registered, the registration key will enable most minor updates. However, the vendor reserves the right to require a new key if a significant improvement is added in a minor update. Major updates will require a new key. Download of the evaluation program and all updates will be available only on www.filestar.com.
