FileStar/2 v3.00 Evaluation Problem
The initial release, v3.00.00, had an anomaly in that if the program was installed in the month of December, it caused an immediate disablement of drag-n-drop and directory operations. This has been fixed in v3.00.01 which is now available for download. Two other very minor bugs and two very minor improvements are also included in the update. Read the fix_list here.

FileStar/2 v3.00 Available!
FileStar/2 v3.00.01 is available for download. It is distributed as an evaluation program to allow a user to try its features installed on any eCS or OS2 system. Upon purchase and installation of a registration key file, the program will convert to unrestrained operation. Until the program is registered, its functionality degrades over a three month period, starting with the date of installation, as follows:

Level 0 - Initial state is full functionality.
Level 1 - Drag and drop is disabled after one month.
Level 2 - Directory functions are disabled after two months.
Level 3 - File functions are disabled after three months.

Each level is inclusive of prior levels. Three months after install, the evaluation program will still run but remains in a crippled level 3 state. It will still be useful as a display of drives, directories and files. All setup and configuration options will be functional in the level 3 state but little else will function. After 6 months, the program will abort during startup.

Once registered, the registration key will also enable most future minor updates. However, if a minor update contains a significant new feature, it may require a new key. Major updates will require a new key. Download of the evaluation program and all updates will be available only on this web site.

FlexEdit v1.00 Available!
FlexEdit v1.00.00 is available for download.

Level 1 - Print function is disabled after one month.
Level 2 - Find function is disabled after two months.
Level 3 - Reverts to a readonly viewer after three months.

Each level is inclusive of prior levels. Three months after install, the evaluation program will still run but remains in a crippled level 3 state. It will still be useful as a file viewer. All setup and configuration options will be functional in the level 3 state.  At the end of six months, the program will automatically terminate on startup.

NOTE: X-File Conflict with SHS Installer, UniMaint and UniSafe
The shareware program X-File does not detect non-standard use of the OS/2 File Dialog in UniMaint, UniSafe and the SHS Install program used to install both the new versions of FileStar/2 and UniMaint. In these applications the File Dialog is in some cases modified to be a directory picker, a perfectly legitimate use of the standard File Dialog API. If UNIMAINT.EXE, UNISAFE.EXE and SHSINST.EXE are not added to the X-File exception list, the dialog will be distorted to a nearly unusable state when used as a directory picker. This is NOT a fault in these SHS programs.

Important UniMaint Notice!!
If you have UniMaint version 5.10.02  installed on a FAT partition and OS/2 installed on a HPFS partition, you probably are not getting a good backup of your Desktop directory structure when you do a Desktop Backup. Starting with  version 5.1, Zip v2.2 is being used to perform the backup where previously Zip v2.1 was used. Based on a very preliminary investigation, it appears that a change in Zip v2.2 to accommodate spaces in directory paths (which the Desktop directory generally has a lot of) results in an error  which is displayed but flys by too fast to read or notice. If your SYSBCKXX.ZIP file has a file size of 350-400k and the ZIP.EXE file size is 112,688 bytes, you have the problem.  You can also run the ZIP.EXE file and see if it reports v2.2.

UniMaint 5.10.23 CSD Available!
The UniMaint CSD available for download below is V5.10.23. It is a maintenance update. Read the readme text file for the changes to see if you should update. It includes the latest Zip update (Zip 2.3) and is compatible with all combinations of FAT and HPFS installations with Zip v2.1 through v2.3.

NOTE: V5.10.23 bug
The UniMaint CSD v5.10.23 has a bug in UniWatch where it cannot find the UniMaint OS2.INI entry. As an interim fix, add the line:
SET UNIMAINT=X:\OS2\OS2.INI
to the config.sys file, where X: is your boot drive and reboot to activate UniWatch.

Installing a CSD
To install a Corrective Service file, open an OS/2 window, change to the product directory, and enter:

    SHSINST
You must use SHSINST to install either of the new CSDs available above (U5101155). Follow the onscreen commands.

Common CSD Install Problems
The most common problem is the Application key in the OS2.INI file has been deleted. If while attempting to apply a CSD you encounter the error message pop-up with the title which reads "Base Level Invalid", it means that the version information stored in the INI files is invalid or could not be found. This information was placed there during the installation of the base product. You must reinstall the base product and then apply a CSD.
